Xpera Recognized by the Canadian Armed Forces for Helping an Employee Serve His Country

20 April 2021

This March, the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) recognized Xpera for its support of Xpera employee John Bauer, Operational Support Administrator and Recruiter, Western Canada. John is also a Sailor Third Class (S3) with the Royal Canadian Navy’s Naval Reserve, HMCS Tecumseh.

Xpera’s support of John has allowed him to serve Canada, and most recently, to deploy for Operation LASER, the Canadian Armed Forces response to the Pandemic. As a show of appreciation, John nominated Xpera for the Certificate of Appreciation.

“We’re pleased to be selected as one of the companies to receive this award,” says Len Copp, President of Xpera. “We would like to thank the CAF and acknowledge our gratitude for the work that they do.”

In a formal presentation on the afternoon of March 17, in Calgary, Alberta, Xpera was presented with a plaque of recognition. The presentation was led by Lieutenant-Colonel Nick Sealy-Thompson, Liaison Officer in Southern Alberta for the CAF, and John’s commanding officer, Commander Joseph Banke and his direct chain of command (Lt(N) Christopher Donaldson and WO Margot Wadman).

While the event was small to comply with Pandemic appropriate measures, the Xpera team spirit was high. John and Xpera team members, including his manager Marnie Saunders, Director, Operations, Western Canada, were on site. “John is an absolute pleasure to work with,” said Marnie Saunders. “His dedication, initiative, and team-focused attitude is inspiring, and my colleagues and I couldn’t have been happier about attending this ceremony.”

It was March 2019 when John, husband and father to his seven-year-old and three-year-old, received the call to serve for a second time. John spent time serving his country in Operation LASER. In September 2020, John was awarded Sailor of the Quarter by his Commanding Officer for his work in supporting the ship and organizing the ship’s Annual Readiness Verification.

“Xpera has been incredibly supportive of the CAF, and more importantly, allowing me the time to support our countries efforts in the pandemic,” said John Bauer. “I am so proud to be nominating Xpera for this award.”
