Investigator, Research & Analytics - Permanent Part Time (Calgary, Alberta, Canada)
Reporting to the Investigations Manager, the Investigator, Research & Analytics will conduct a wide variety of detailed, quality, and timely research and investigative assignments. This position will work within the Open-Source Intelligence team and collaborate with team members daily. Along with possessing an investigative mindset, advanced report writing, and research skills, a strong command of grammar and the English language are essential to success in this role. In time, this role may be available for remote work! The ideal candidate has a demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks within a fast-paced environment under the pressure of tight deadlines. Strong organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills are required. Must conduct all investigations in a professional manner and always maintain strict confidentiality.
Responsibilities:
Conduct detailed, in-depth background and asset investigations on individuals and corporate entities in response to client requests using Internet research and databases Conduct intellectual property investigations via online research and site attendances Locate individuals throughout Canada using database and Internet searches as well as inquiries Assist with confirming focal points and identifiers, to maximize surveillance resources Comfortably navigate through popular social networking sites, locating, analyzing, and documenting relevant material found Document files accurately with file activity and all information gathered Ensure all client protocols and guidelines are followed Report your findings to our clients in accordance with Xpera standards and practices Abide by relevant privacy legislation and adhere to internal policies, guidelines and best practices that apply to open-source intelligence Provide support to the Surveillance and Risk Management Divisions with open-source research as needed Remain current on industry standards, new and emergent sites and participate in staff meetings and trainings for information sharing purposes Attend court or legal proceedings as required Other related duties, as required
Education:
Post-secondary degree, preferably in a related social science field such as criminology, forensic crime and intelligence analysis, journalism, sociology, psychology, etc. or equivalent combination of post-secondary diploma and relevant experience. Considered an asset but not required. Completion of ‘Using the Internet as an Investigative Research Tool’ training through Toddington International, or willingness to complete within two months A strong command of the English language (written and oral) is essential to success in this role
Professional/Technical Certification or Licenses:
Holds a valid Private Investigator License within the Province of Alberta Reliable vehicle currently licensed for business/commercial purposes
Job Knowledge or Work Experience:
Minimum 2 years research and/or investigative working experience Ability to work autonomously Prior experience working in a client focused environment Understanding of threat risk assessments and analytics Knowledge of all levels of the Canadian court system, insurance law and privacy legislation an asset Proficiency working with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook Advanced report writing and research abilities

The SIU department provides investigative services, technical expertise, and is a resource for clients nationally. The SIU department’s vision is of world class performance and technical expertise dedicated to the appropriate investigation consistent with the highest standards of professional, ethical, and legal conduct. The SIU department investigates files where there is a need for a more in-depth and specialized investigation beyond the scope of the client’s in-house availability and expertise. Where fact-finding is required, an SIU investigation is conducted in a fair, objective, thorough, timely and professional manner, enabling the client to objectively decide of the facts and circumstances, appropriately addressing fraudulent or non-meritorious matters, and facilitating the resolution of meritorious matters.
This is a casual position and hours fluctuate with the workload and time of the year.
Role Requirements:
7-10 years of investigative experience ideally in Regulatory, Workplace Investigations, Insurance Claims, and Theft Investigations Consideration will also be given to those with significant expertise in one line of business based on experience Knowledge of legal processes and evidence collection Post-secondary education or equivalency in training Computer literacy and ability to learn new programs Possess a valid Ontario Private Investigators license Willingness to travel Valid Driver's license; Reliable vehicle and clean driving record

Conduct detailed, in-depth background and asset investigations on individuals and corporate entities in response to client requests using Internet research and databases Conduct intellectual property investigations via online research and site attendances Locate individuals throughout Canada using database and Internet searches as well as inquiries Assist with confirming focal points and identifiers, to maximize surveillance resources Comfortably navigate through popular social networking sites, locating, analyzing, and documenting relevant material found Document files accurately with file activity and all information gathered Ensure all client protocols and guidelines are followed Report your findings to our clients in accordance with Xpera standards and practices Abide by relevant privacy legislation and adhere to internal policies, guidelines and best practices that apply to open-source intelligence Provide support to the Surveillance and Risk Management Divisions with open-source research as needed Remain current on industry standards, new and emergent sites and participate in staff meetings and trainings for information sharing purposes Attend court or legal proceedings as required Other related duties, as required
Education:
Post-secondary degree, preferably in a related social science field such as criminology, forensic crime and intelligence analysis, journalism, sociology, psychology, etc. or equivalent combination of post-secondary diploma and relevant experience. Considered an asset but not required. Completion of ‘Using the Internet as an Investigative Research Tool’ training through Toddington International, or willingness to complete within two months A strong command of the English language (written and oral) is essential to success in this role
Professional/Technical Certification or Licenses:
Holds a valid Private Investigator License within the Province of Alberta Reliable vehicle currently licensed for business/commercial purposes
Job Knowledge or Work Experience:
Minimum 2 years research and/or investigative working experience Ability to work autonomously Prior experience working in a client focused environment Understanding of threat risk assessments and analytics Knowledge of all levels of the Canadian court system, insurance law and privacy legislation an asset Proficiency working with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook Advanced report writing and research abilities

As an Operations Support Administrator, you will work as part of a team to deliver quality service to our internal Investigations Managers. This includes preparing detailed, evidence-based investigation reports for clients, producing DVDs for investigation files using raw video footage, and assisting with the opening and closing of investigation files. You will also maintain our evidence library and manage our Outlook account for daily assignments and tasks. In addition, you will assist with planning staff meetings and training sessions, as well as invoicing and reception duties.
This is a permanent, full time, entry-level employment opportunity. The successful candidate must be available to work in our Burnaby office during regular daytime business hours.
Role Requirements:
Minimum of one year of experience in an office administration role Diploma in Office Administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook) Familiarity with Edius Pro 9 or other video editing programs is an asset Knowledge of Snagit, Snagit Editor, YouTube Downloader and Google Earth also an asset
